What is magnetic resonance imaging  -  MRI?

Magnetic resonance imaging is one of the best methods of imaging the human body, it uses a body uses harmless magnetic field.  Very well differentiated abnormal lesions in examined organs in any sections and levels.  We use the brand new, modern, High-Field Magnetic Resonance cameras from 1.5 to 2.7 Tesla.  You can accept the statement that the higher the magnetic field, the images obtained during the examination are more accurate, and the diagnosis is correct.  The cameras make it possible to obtain excellent image quality and a wide range of clinical applications including not only basic research, but also advanced applications that are impossible to be done in other settings, such as the examination of the heart and breast.  New imaging techniques make it possible to test the blood vessels without the use of contrast medium.

What is the same MRI?

The patient lies comfortably inside the scanner, the examination is painless.  The room is bright and air-conditioned.  During the examination, the patient is under the care of trained staff, working under the guidance of a specialist - radiologist.  For people suffering from claustrophobia the camera has an expanded field of view through a mirror mounted inside.  Pregnant women - the patient should inform the doctor about her condition before the study.

How to prepare for MRI?

The examination does not require special preparation, but sometimes because of the frequent need for contrast agent administration (allowing assessment of inflammatory and neoplastic changes) it is recommended to stay two hours prior to the examination on an empty stomach.  The patient at the time of the examination should not have: credit cards, cell phones, jewelry, watches, pins and hair clips, sunglasses, wallets and coins, all other metal objects.  Ladies during the head examination are asked to wash off the makeup, because it may cause field disturbances and unreadable picture.

NOTE! Patients should inform the staff if they, or the person accompanying them in the room where the camera is situated, have the following elements:

  • metal clip artery closure, stents,
  • pacemaker
  • implanted cardioverter - defibrillator
  • electronic implants or prostheses,
  • vocationally activated magnetic implants or dentures,
  • neurological stimulation system,
  • spinal cord stimulator,
  • cochlear implant or implanted hearing aid
  • implanted drug infusion device,
  • or insulin infusion pump,
  • any other prostheses or implants.

Our labs offer:

  • examination of the brain (the most important method in the diagnosis of tumors, stroke, multiple sclerosis, degenerative, inflammatory lesions, malformations, allows us to control after surgery), cerebrovascular and vessels supplying the brain examination (malformations, aneurysms, hemangiomas, stenosis, dissection),
  • examination of craniofacial (including the orbits, sinuses), pharynx, larynx - especially important in tumors and inflammatory changes,
  • examination of the joints, bones and soft tissue of each area - the best currently existing non-invasive method for diagnosis of arthritis, especially valuable in the examination of the shoulder, elbow, wrist, hip, knee, ankle, and foot joints.  Obtained are excellent images of tendons and tendon sheaths, ligaments, cartilage (chondromalacia accurate assessment of the degree, the assessment of damage to articular labrum in the shoulder and hip joints, the assessment of damage in the knee joints meniscus), it is also possible a thorough evaluation of the bone marrow (bone bruising, inflammation, tumors and necrosis.  Due to our camera's capabilities an orthopedic doctor may decide to conservative treatment or surgery.  Important is the opportunity to evaluate soft tissues (e.g. muscle) - Post-traumatic changes or tumors.
  • examination of the spine (each three sections - cervical, thoracic and lumbar-sacral) is an excellent method for imaging and discopathic osteoarthritis and inflammatory lesions, tumors in the spinal canal, spinal and paraspinal tumors,
  • Abdominal examination - allows precise evaluation of such liver and pancreatic biliary and pancreatic ducts,
  • MRCP (choledocholithiasis, inflammatory stricture, chronic pancreatitis, cancer), and assessment of other abdominal organs (including adrenal insufficiency - flesh and urine outflow tract)
  • Pelvic examination - changes in reproductive organ, prostate - especially the assessment of the extent of the disease.
  • the most accurate and non-invasive breast - magnetic resonance mammography X-ray mammography and replacing ultrasound.

Those are not all the possibilities of our devices.  For more information, please contact one of our doctors radiologists.

The results of the examination?

Diagnosis in writing, shall be forwarded to the patient or doctor.

NOTE! We always provide a whole registered examination on CD - all the scans and sequences.

How the examination can be performed?

  • private (fee - according to the price list)
  • free (reimbursement by the National Health Fund
  • on the basis of referrals from specialist clinic having a contract with the National Health Fund)
